Elvis Lee Hendrix

Elvis Lee Hendrix, 85, died Monday, Feb. 12, 2018. He was born Jan. 16, 1933, in Memphis, Tenn. He was the oldest of nine children. Elvis went to enlist in the Army at the age of 15; but, he needed his father’s signature on the form. His father signed and he joined the Army as a paratrooper. After his tour in Korea, he worked at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois as a mechanic until he retired as civilian military. He also worked at the Scottish Rite Temple in St. Louis as a maintenance supervisor until he retired again in 2013. 

He meet Barbara “Jean” Hendrix in 1975 and they married that year. He was a 33 degree Mason and both he and Jean were members of the Florissant Eastern Star Chapter. He was also a member of Moolah Shrine in St. Louis.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Jean Hendrix, in 2012; his mother, Ida Belle Hendrix and father, Otis Lee Hendrix; brothers, Floyd Hendrix, Clinton Hendrix, Billy Hendrix and Gerald Hendrix and grandson, Tony Vaughan. 

He is survived by sisters, Charlotte Ovenstone, Judy Girly and Carlene Hendrix and brother Russell Hendrix.

He is also survived by his daughter, Mary Elizabeth Vaughan, of Catoosa and his son, Mel Lee Hendrix, of Bridgeton, Mo.; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 7, at 11 a.m. at Mount Olive Cemetery in Nardin, with Ron Chambers officiating.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, a donation in his name be sent to American Cancer Society in c/o of Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, OK 74631.
