Joyce Cleone Callaway

Joyce Cleone Callaway, of Braman, died early Sunday morning, June 3, 2018, at Ponca City Nursing and Rehab. She was 93.

Joyce was born on Jan. 31, 1925, in Bloom, Kan., to John and Edna May Gray Shields. She grew up in Enid and following her education she moved to Wichita, Kan., where she attended and graduated from cosmetology school. She worked as a cosmetologist in Wichita and Derby, Kan. and became an instructor and manager of cosmetology schools in Wichita and Arkansas City, Kan. She later owned and operated the State Line Bar in Hunnewell, Kan., until her retirement.

She is survived by her daughter, Glenda Houchin, of Newkirk; a son, John Cobb, of Arizona; a sister, Marilyn Myers, of Kentucky; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Glen Cobb, Ralph Triplett and Donald Callaway; three sisters, Ivis McGuire, Jean Reece and Lucille Sade and a brother, Charles Shields.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, June 6, at Rose Hill Cemetery in South Haven, Kan., with family and friends officiating.

A memorial has been established in her honor with Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation for dementia research in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, OK 74631.
