Jack R. Kelsey

Jack R. Kelsey, 89, of Ponca City, formerly of Arkansas City, died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2018 at the South Central Kansas Medical Center of Arkansas City.

The family will greet friends on Friday, Aug. 10 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 11 at the Northeast Baptist Church in Ponca City. Burial will follow in the Hope Cemetery southwest of Arkansas City.

Jack was born Oct. 28, 1928, to Raymond and Tillie (Atkins) Kelsey, on a farm just south of the Kansas/Oklahoma border south of Arkansas City. He was reared and educated in Arkansas City, graduating from high school in 1946. He married Barbara Logan on June 4, 1948. The couple made their home locally raising their three daughters. Jack was a longtime time employee of the City of Arkansas City, and was the Environmental Superintendent upon his retirement. After retirement, the couple moved to Ponca City, where they were active in the Northeast Baptist Church. Jack was very good musician, he was lead guitar for the “Country Notes” Band. He enjoyed playing where ever he could for senior citizens centers from Arkansas City to Ponca City and at “Mike’s Gospel Jubilee many times, including this year. He was member of the Walnut Valley Old Time Fiddlers, Arkansas City Jaycees and Kiwanis Club.

Survivors include three daughters Gale and husband J.L. Brandon of Newkirk, Linda Hefner of Hutchinson, Kan. and Kelly Kelsey of Mulvane, Kan.; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Barbara in 2013; and sisters Louise Allen, Harriet Hamm, and Bernadine Blevins.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the Arkansas City Senior Citizens Center. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
