
Delbert Handke
Delbert Handke passed away Aug. 10, 2018 at the age of 82. He was born on Nov. 12, 1935 on the family farm in Minco. He graduated from Minco High School in 1955. He then went on to attend college at Central State University in Edmond and attained his bachelor’s degree. He attained his master’s degree from Oklahoma University and his Administration degree from Oklahoma State University.
He had an educational career consisting of teaching, coaching and superintendent beginning in Amber, OK. He was the Superintendent at Cashion for 13 years and many more schools ending his educational career of 40 years at Elmore City. He then worked at Remington Park for 20 years.
He also worked for 20 years at a job he loved working at Frontier City. He worked as the sheriff handing out tickets and visiting with people up until June 2018.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jimalynn Deyoung and son Mark Devere Handke. Brother in-law Harold Edelman and nephew Kris Edelman.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years Evelyn Irene Handke, son Brett Handke and wife Amber of Mustang and children Cheyenne, Dakota, Cody, Kaitlyn & Madisyon. His daughter, Ashley Watters and husband Dustin, of Ponca City and children Rian, Kori, Ean and Isac. His brother DeWayne Handke and wife Judy of Moore and children Dana and Steven. His sister in-law Judy and John Eidt and son Chad Defibaugh and one neice Kim Hickson of Mustang and many more relatives and friends.
As a result of his generous spirit and pleasant personality, he was loved by many. He was someone who always brought a smile to your face and joy to your heart with his kindness and sense of humor. His greatest love was his grandkids and the time he spent with them and supporting them. His influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew him.
A memorial service will be Aug. 16 at 11 a.m. at Northeast Baptist Church in Ponca City.
