Darold Eugene Johnson

Darold Eugene Johnson

Darold Eugene Johnson, 83, passed away Friday, Sept. 7, 2018.

Darold was born Aug. 11, 1935 in Pawhuska, the son of Ray Edgar and Gladys Pearl Bailey Johnson. He attended and graduated Pawhuska High School in 1955. He later attended and graduated telegraph school in Pueblo, Colo. On June 9, 1958, he married Sue Von Hollowell in Ochelata, Okla. They had two sons, Chris and Dale.

Darold was a dedicated employee for the Santa Fe Railroad for 45 years. To say Darold was an outdoorsman was an understatement – he loved hunting and fishing. He loved music, singing, and playing his harmonica. He traveled all over Oklahoma to bluegrass and gospel concerts.

He played his harmonica and sang in a bluegrass band as well as any time a crowd would gather.

What Darold loved most of all was his family – he was a family man. He was a veteran of the US Army, serving during the Korean Conflict volunteering for the K-9 Unit with his trusty sidekick, Adolf. Darold attended Assembly of God Church.

Surviving family include his wife, Sue Von; son Chris; grandson Casey and wife, Rae, their children Elia and Noah; grandson Jason and wife, Alisa, their son Jagger; grandson Jacob and wife, Kaisha; granddaughter Jeraka Ireland and husband, Jeff, their children, Ransom, Landon, and Axel; granddaughter Sondra Rogers and husband, Joey, their children Jared, Maci, and Case; grandson D. Wayne and wife, Kourtnee, their children Ella, Dale Creek, and Ridge.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Sept. 13, 2 p.m., at the Assembly of God Church, Pawhuska. Pastor Tracy Fitzgerald will officiate. Interment will be in the Nelagoney Cemetery.

Kendrick McCartney Johnson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
