Live music at the 31st annual Cherokee Strip Barbeque and Chili Cook-Off will feature three performing bands, Band # 9, FunkDaFied, and Morrison33, kicking off at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 22.
Band # 9
Band # 9 consists of Steve Young on guitar, Charles Nix on Keyboards, Larry Newsom on guitar and vocals, Mike Logan on drums, and Gary Wilson on bass and vocals. Young started playing at 10 years old and has been a member of several bands, including Country Mile. His musical influences include Lynyrd Skyryrd, Led Zeppelin,and Pink Floyd.
Nix started playing organ at 10 years old and his first band was formed in high school by the name of Full Tilt. He has also played in Zero Tolerance and Ground Level. His influences include Deep Purple, Zeppelin, and the blues.
Mike Logan has been playing drums since he was 10 years old. He played in the band in high school. His influences include ZZ Top, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Eagles, Led Zeppelin and Foo Fighters.
Wilson started playing guitar at 12 years old and switched to bass guitar in High school. His school bands included Thunderhead and Rattler”and later was recruited into a country band Paylode for 10 years, acoustic folk rock band “Detour” and No Deny as well as solo acoustic gigs. His influences include Kiss, Sammy Hagar, Van Halen, The Eagles, ZZ Top, Lynyrd Skynyrd and many others.

The FunkDaFied Band has been together for eight years, playing funk, R&B and blues

Morrison33
Lead vocalist Dean Allen is known his soulful, bluesy vocals and has been in the music scene for many years. He was previously the lead vocalist for 4DL.
Bass player Ken Kilpatrick has been a member of the band for many years, playing in his first band with FunkDaFied. Kilpatrick is well known for his old school funky bass lines.
Keyboard Player and vocalist Jeremy Stubbs is known for his very unique style on the keyboards and has been with the band for many years He has performed with many big name choirs over the years, such as the Roustabouts and the Mississippi Mass Choir and many others around the united states..
Percussionist and vocalist John Simpson has been playing drums and singing since the eighties. He has been in the music scene for many years. He’s well known for being the lead vocalist of popular nineties band Zero tolerance and currently is the drummer for popular band Morrison33.
Lead guitarist, vocalist and founder of the FunkDaFied Band is Randy Jackson. He has been in music scene since the early nineties, playing bass and drums with many bands such as the Randy Burkett Project, He is also the current lead guitarist for popular band Morrison33.
Larry Newsom started playing at 12 years old and eventually played in a couple of bands in high school. He had his first EP of original songs at the age 19 and had a manager/booking agent. Newsome later played in local

Newsome also performs solo acoustic gigs.
Morrison33
Morrison 33 is an original band that refuses to be classified by any genre. Formed in 2008, its members have a long history in music and the group has gained an impressive following. Their set list includes many original compositions in several genres.
The band is comprised of five members: Cody Bemo on guitar and lead vocals, Bill Wetzel on bass and vocals, John Simpson on drums and vocals, Randy Jackson on lead guitar and vocals, and Jeremy Stillwell on keyboards.
Bemo has played locally and regionally for several years. Bemo loves songwriting and a large part of the group’s original lyrics were penned by the guitarist. Bemo also plays keyboards.
Wetzel is probably best known locally as a business owner. The self-taught musician has played in rock and country bands since the mid-eighties. Previously he performed locally with groups Zero Tolerance and Country Mile.
Jackson has been involved in the local music scene for years, playing previously with groups including FunkDaFied and the Randy Burkett Project.
Simpson has been playing drums and singing since the eighties. His straight forward driving rock style is key to the band’s sound. Previously he performed locally with Zero Tolerance.
Stillwell also has a long history in music, having played with bands such as Banana Seat of Oklahoma City and Country Mile of Ponca City. Stillwell is a practicing attorney in Oklahoma City.
