Victor Allen Bushyhead

Victor Allen Bushyhead, longtime Newkirk resident, died early Tuesday morning, Dec. 4, 2018 in Alliance Health Ponca City. He was 84.

The son of Fred Henry Bushyhead and Dulcie Newakis Bushyhead, Victor was born June 29, 1934 in Concho, Okla. He grew up in the Calumet area and attended Concho Indian School and El Reno High School.

On Dec. 30, 1954 Victor and Clara Jennifer Nez were married in El Reno, Okla. They established their first home in El Reno, moving later to Concho. They left Chilocco when it was closed in 1980. They moved to Arkansas City where they lived until 1986 when they moved to Newkirk where they have since resided.

Victor’s work history started when he delivered newspapers in Concho when he was in junior high school. He worked on farms, and he was employed at the game farm as a night watchman and as a security guard. Later he worked at the Otasco store in Arkansas City. While working as Chilocco, Victor was in a tractor accident and was unable to work again.

A proud member of the Cheyenne Nation, Victor enjoyed telling stories and jokes. He liked sports and enjoyed fishing, playing golf, softball, and driving race cars with his brother. He loved the 4th of July and being called Grandpa by so many, family and friends alike. Most of all, he cherished his family and relished the time spent with them.
