Craig Ray Humphries

Craig Ray Humphries

Craig Ray Humphries was born on Feb. 22, 1948, in Ponca City to Gilbert and Irene Humphries of Tonkawa.

He grew up in Tonkawa where he excelled in the Tonkawa school system. He was Valedictorian of his high school graduating class, president of the student council and a member of the State and National Honor Societies. In 1966 upon graduation he was accepted into the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo. where he was a member of the Sabre Team and the College National Parachute Team that became national champion the year he led them.

After graduation from the Air Force Academy as a captain in the Air Force, he began flight school and became a pilot of the F-6 fighter jet. Next he was sent on a tour of duty in Vietnam where he flew the OV-10. Upon completion of his tour of duty in Vietnam he was accepted into the business program at UCLA where he earned his MBA in 1977.

In 1978 he met and married Mary Ann Matule of Great Falls, Mont. where he was stationed as a pilot. After retiring from the Air Force, Craig moved to Wichita, Kan. where he held the position of Master Tax Planner for H&R Block for 20 years. He was also a church member and volunteer worker at the Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Wichita and Peace Lutheran Church in Andover, Kan.

Craig was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann, his father, Gilbert Humphries, his brother John Humphries, his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Cronin of Blackwell and Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Humphries Sr. of Tonkawa.

He is survived by his mother, Irene Humphries of Ponca City, his sister Beth Scott of Los Angeles, Calif. and many wonderful cousins in Ponca City and the surrounding area.
