Boom-a-Rang Diner Opening Set

January 17

Boom-a-Rang Diner’s 51st store, located downtown at Second Street and East Grand Avenue, will have it’s official grand opening Monday, January 29.

This date is significant because it is Charles Degraffenreid’s, founder of Boom-a-Rang Diners, birthday.

The restaurant will seat 72 and will be open 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., serving the entire menu, breakfast, lunch and dinner, open to close.

The diner is in the historic building previously occupied by druggist T.J. Cuzalina for many years, and later by the office of Attorney John Northcutt.

PCDA Session Held; Two Items Get an OK

The agenda for the January meeting of the Ponca City Development Authority was light with two items approved in addition to the consent agenda of minutes and expenses.

Chaired by Natalie Fraser, the trustees approved sending out a request for proposal for a boiler for the City Center building. The building at 400 East Central was donated by the former owner.

OSU Business Session At UC

January 17

The first Oklahoma State University business session of 2018 at University Center will be on Feb. 14, taught by Dr. Ken Eastmand.

The session is entitled Good to Great: What’s a Leader to Do?

In the afternoon the University Center will host Dr, Mac McCroy on the importance of of Stress Management.

Permits Issued in December

Four commercial remodelings topped permitting at the Developmental Services Department of the City during Dec. 2017.

Topping the list was an interior remodeling of RCB Bank, 216 North Second, at $200,000. Another interior bank remodel at 901 East Prospect for Community National Bank was valued at $75,000.

A Spears Car Wash, 2901 North Union, had an valuation of $75,000. A remodel at 2720 North Fourteenth for Russell Cellular was valuated at $10,000.

Although there were no new building permits issued in December, there were several housing permits issued during the year.

Five single family dwelling permits were issued with a total valuation of $455.000; one multi- housing permit had a valuation of $2,556,791; seven new commerical permits had a total valuation of $11,620,572; 20 commerical remodeling permits had a total valuation of $8,736,272; and 41 residential remodelings totaled $932,126.

Record Number of Visitors

The E.W. Marland Estate, which includes the Marland Mansion, Artist Studio and the Conoco Museum, had a record year in 2017.

Total out-of-town visitors included 12,374. This included 104 groups. The income from admissions was $92,495.

The gift shop also had a record income of $37,913. Part of this income was from 17,000 DVDs of the Emmy-nominated “Life and Times of E.W. Marland.”

This documentary was shown three times on OETA.

New Hire at Pioneer Tech

Pioneer Technology Center’s (PTC) Business and Industry Services (BIS) division continues to grow; Corbin Dewitt was hired to be the Leadership Development Coordinator, the position previously held by Molly Kyler.

Dewitt was employed four years as the Kay County Agricultural Extension Educator in the OSU Extension Office. Originally from Hominy, he enjoys the small town atmosphere that Kay County provides. Dewitt holds a Bachelor’s Degree from OSU in Agricultural Leadership and a Masters in Agricultural Education.

According to Molly Kyler, Executive Director of BIS, Dewitt will provide organizational consulting to help companies keep up in today’s fast-changing and competitive work environment. He will assist in providing customized training based on clients’ needs and objectives.

The Boat House and RV Center has moved to a new location. The business is locally owned by DeWayne Howey and has been serving Ponca City and surrounding areas since 1979,

The firm specializes in Tracker products and has the newest selection on the lot. If customers see something online they like it can be ordered. Or if customers are looking for a used boat instead those are available also.

Additionally, the firm takes trade ins and consignment sales.

The Boast House also has moved the service department, which has 35 years of experience on all makes and models of both boats and RVs, to the new location, 3909 North Pleasant View Road. The new location is 3909 North Pleasant View Road. Hours are Tuesday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

PCDA Sets Meeting On Thursday

The Ponca City Development Authority will meet at 7:30 a.m. Thursday and will discuss a proposal for installing a replacement boiler at the City Central building at 400 East Central.

Another discussion item is increasing the maximum PCDA incentive for the ICAP program from $5,000 to $6,000.

This will be followed by staff reports and a motion to enter executive session to discuss projects Heavenly, Peabody, Pyramid, Slamming and Yep. This will be followed by new business and adjournment.

The meeting place is at the Ponca City Area Chamber of Commerce, 420 East Grand.
