
Virginia Elizabeth Taylor
Virginia Elizabeth Taylor, resident of Ponca City, passed away peacefully in her sleep at Via Christi Village on Thursday, July 26, 2018.
A graveside service to celebrate her life will be held Monday, July 30, at 1:30 p.m. at Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation was held on Saturday, July 28 and Sunday, July 29 at Trout Funeral Home.
Virginia was born on June 10, 1931, in Drumright, the daughter of Fred Raymond Birge and Ethel Mae Denny Birge and moved to Ponca City at age 12. On Dec. 24, 1949, she married Robert Henry Taylor and they had celebrated their 68th Wedding Anniversary shortly before Robert’s passing in January 2018. They had two daughters.
For many years, Virginia was employed by the Ponca City Public School System in the food service department at Lincoln Elementary and West Junior High Schools. Before her advanced age, her hobbies included decorating cakes, camping, fishing and traveling with her sisters Marie and Margie and their husbands. Her favorite trip was to Mount Rushmore and she always expressed a desire to return there once more. She loved playing bingo and dominoes with her newest friends at Via Christi.
She is survived by her two daughters, Roberta Denton and husband Larry Denton, of Frisco, Texas and Joyce Hays and husband Ronald Hays, of Ponca City; grandchildren, Brent Hays and wife Lisa, of Ponca City, Robert Hays and wife Merry, of Ponca City and Jonathan Denton and wife Stephanie, of Frisco, Texas; great-grandchildren, Sean Hays, of Shreveport, La., Clayton Hays, Cadence Hays, Katrina Hays and Conner Hays, all of Ponca City and Blake Denton and Brandon Denton, of Frisco, Texas.
She is also survived by her sisters, Marie Gelino and Margie Hand; sister-in-law, Norma Osborn; brothers-in-law, Virgle Taylor and his wife Eva and Harold Taylor and his wife Martha; as well as her long time very special friends, Barbara Jacques and husband Harry and Nadine Thomas.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert; her brothers, Orville, Raymond, Melvin, Herman, Wesley and David Birge and one sister, Abby Lucille.
The family would like to give a special thank you to the employees of Via Christi Assisted Living staff for the wonderful love and care given to Virginia.
