Ralston to Hold its 73rd Annual Labor Day Celebration Sept. 1-3

RALSTON ­— The small town of Ralston will be holding its annual Labor Day Festival from September 1-3, 2018.

Beginning in 1945, the town has continued this celebration for 73 years.

Founded in 1894, the small town of Ralston is on the Arkansas River in northcentral Oklahoma.

The three-day event is full of family-oriented activities and includes a car show, chili cookoff, rides, games, music and street dance, ice cream contest, mutton busting for the kids, cake walks, horseshoe and cornhole contest, kids and adult races, water balloon toss, terrapin turtle derby, soap box derby, drawing, giveaways, carriage rides, and much more.

It all culminates with the Grand Parade on Labor Day with a free BBQ feed in the evening.

Tour Ralston’s historic sand stone Main Street and step back 100 years. Free tours will be available of the historic Ralston Opera House and First National Bank, built in 1902. Enjoy a home cooked meal at the corner café in the old Odd Fellows Lodge or relax in the shade of the old Silver Moon Saloon.

The Ralston Opera House was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1987 and was added to Preservation Oklahoma’s list of Oklahoma’s most endangered historic structures in May of 2018. The Ralston Foundation and Boosters are working to save and renovate all the towns historic structures.

There will be multiple vendors with a variety of merchandise and refreshments or peruse the antiques in the old Harry Brothers Hardware and Mercantile, and something for everyone at the festival.
