Mary Louise Logsdon

Mary Louise Logsdon, 76, retired elementary teacher and K-12 Librarian passed away Aug. 22, 2018 at her home in Ponca City.

Born August 11, 1942 in Natoma, Kan., she was the daughter of Vernon and Leah Mayo Matheson.

Mary lived her early life in Natoma until the family moved to Larned, Kan., where she attended school and graduated from Larned High school in 1960. She married Jack Atteberry and they had three children, Pamela, Kyle, and Larry. They later divorced.

In 1974, Mary moved to the Hays, Kan. area where she attended Fort Hays College, majoring in Elementary Education. On July 1, 1976, she married Max E. Logsdon. They moved to Hamilton, Kan. where she continued her education at Emporia State University.

They were blessed with one daughter, Mary Eva Angela Logsdon.

Mary continued her education and received a BSE in 1982 and MLS in 1984 from Emporia State University. She worked at Rural Vista, Wellington, and Dexter as librarian and elementary teacher until she retired. Mary also enjoyed doing crafts and card making.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, LaVernne Johnson and Patricia Brown, brother Verneal Matheson, one step-daughter Cynthia Hagen and two step-grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband Max of the home in Ponca City; children, Angie Logsdon of, Winfield; Pam Stearns of, Spanaway, Wash.; Larry Atteberry, of Owosso, Mich.; Kyle Atteberry, of Larned; sister Verna Munk, of Gorham; brother Calvin Matheson, of Iola; step-children, Cathy Barber of Choctaw; Lewis Logsdon, of Emporia; Alan Logsdon, of Russell; Max B. Logsdon, of Emporia; David Logsdon, of Udall; 23 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews and many friends.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Aug. 31, 2018 at 10 a.m. at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield, Kan. Interment will be held at 1 p.m. that afternoon at James Cemetery in Hamilton, Kan.

A visitation is scheduled to be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday evening. The family will greet visitors from 4 to 6 that evening.

In lieu of flowers, a scholarship has been established in Mary’s name for Dexter Schools, USD #471. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Charles Hanger — A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. at First Church of the Nazarene in Ponca City at 1 p.m. Please come casually and bring a fond memory of Charles
