Hall of Fame Award Dinner Set Sept. 27

The second annual Po-Hi Alumni Hall of Fame awards dinner has been set for Thursday, Sept. 27, to honor selected past graduates of Ponca City High School.

Ceremonies will be held in the Carolyn Renfro Event Center, located at 445 Fairview Avenue, at 7 p.m.

Eight former students will receive awards at the ceremony. The News will feature two of these inductees each week leading into the event.

Friends and family are encouraged to attend this prestigious event. Tickets are now available, and can be obtained by ordering from Po-Hi Hall of Fame, attention Sandy James, treasurer, P.O. Box 605, Ponca City, OK, 74602. Tickets are $50 each, which covers dinners to be catered by Affairs to Remember plus a contribution to a scholarship fund. Scholarships will be awarded to at least one Po-Hi graduate each year to facilitate entry into the college of their choice. A table of eight may be reserved at the cost of $500. READ MORE….

Mini-Flag Clinic Starts Monday

The Big Blue Marching Band and the Po-Hi Color Guard will sponsor their annual mini-flag clinic starting Monday, Aug. 27 at East Middle School. The clinic is open to all students from kindergarten through the eighth grade.

Students will work with Color Guard members to learn basic flag techniques as well as a routine to be performed at the first home football game.

The clinic will run from 5-6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and all participants will be eligible to perform at the half-time performance at Sullins Stadium on Friday, August 31. The cost is $30 per person which includes registration, instruction, t-shirt, and a flag to keep.

Registration will be held on Monday, August 27 at East Middle School from 4:15 p.m. until 5 p.m. Please enter the building through the 6th Street entrance. Participants may also register online any time before the clinic at goo.gl/JqghXb. Acceptable payment types are cash or checks and should be paid before the clinic begins. Students will need to be picked-up promptly after the clinic ends each day and will not be permitted to leave until their parent or designee has come inside to pick them up. This guidance award recognizes school counselors and career development professionals who have demonstrated a commitment to connecting students with opportunities for success, shown innovation in career exploration and development, and have advocated for CareerTech (CTE) as a practical option for all students. NOC Administrators Attend Summit

DENVER, Colo. —The first annual Native American-Serving, Nontribal Institutions (NASNTI) National Summit was held July 26-27 at the Westin Denver Downtown Hotel, attracting nearly 100 higher education leaders to discuss, debate, and problem-solve issues unique to 24 Native-Serving colleges and universities, and to the tens of thousands of American Indian and Alaska Native students who attend these off-reservation institutions. Donation Given to NOC Foundation

TONKAWA — The Tonkawa Area Arts & Humanities Council presented a $1,000 donation to the Northern Oklahoma College Foundation on Monday for art scholarships.

This will be the third year the council has offered two $250 scholarships per semester to students majoring in artistic areas.

Last year’s recipients John Swanson of Ponca City and Trenton Claybaker of Blackwell have been selected for the award during the 2018-19 school years. Both are Digital Media Institutes students studying under Brad Matson. READ MORE…..
