Leonard “Lenny” Dale Mehojah passed from this life, Dec. 27, 2018 in Buffalo, New York. He was 57 years old. A funeral service will be held for Lenny on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2019 at 2 p.m. at the Washunga Cemetery in Newkirk, Okla. The pastor Dennis Wildman will officiate the service. Friends and family are invited to come spend time with Lenny before his committal on both Friday from 9 to 5 and Saturday morning from 8 to 10 at Grace Memorial Chapel in Ponca City.
Lenny was born to Ernest Ray Mehojah and Milburnia Sue Dodson Mehojah on Aug. 9, 1961 in Pawnee. He was the oldest of five children.
He worked as a roughneck and a roofer in the construction industry all across the United States. A gypsy at heart, Lenny loved to wander. He could be seen from deep in the heart of Texas all the way up to New York City wearing his “Walking Boots” and his black cowboy hat. Whether he was traveling with work or hitchhiking for fun, he always wore a smile. A kind and generous man, Lenny would give his last dollar to a stranger if they were in need. He was a talented musician and would often be asked to sit in and play the drums. He carried a sketch pad with him and filled it with wondrous drawings in both pencil and ink. His specialty was Native American Art, but he could draw anything with uncanny realism.
Leonard was a member of the Kaw Tribe of Oklahoma, Night Clan, descended from Jess Mehojah Jr., who was tribal chief.
Lenny was greeted in heaven by his father, Ernest Ray and brother Ernest Jr.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his mother, Milburna Mehojah, of Ponca City; son Christopher Elliott and wife Wendy, of Texas; son Anson Mehojah, of Canada; grandchildren William and Donald Elliott, of Texas; Elecktra Valkrye Mehojah, of Canada; son Timothy Rodriguez and wife Natalie, of Texas; and Cathrine Melonie Rodriguez, of Washington; as well as grandchildren Sage and Kesslyn Rodriguez; brother Emmett Ray Mehojah and wife Dolly, of Ponca City; sister Terry Ussery, of Ponca City; brothers Milburn Gene Mehojah, of Ponca City and William Thomas Mehojah and wife Tonya, of Texas, and a host of nieces and nephews.
