Michael Eugene Rawlings
Michael Eugene Rawlings, 58, one-time Ponca City resident, died Friday, Dec. 7th, 2018 in East Millinocket, Maine, after his battle with cancer.
Mike was born to Joyce C. Warren and Joseph N. Rawlings, Sr. in Washington, D.C.. on Aug. 19, 1960. He attended high school in California and Virginia, graduating in 1978 from Montevideo High School in Penn Laird, Va. He continued his education at Blue Ridge Community College studying business management.
Mike knew early on that he had a knack for sales, selling newspaper subscriptions in Sacramento, Cali. and setting sales records at the age of 12. He later had success selling Kirby vacuums while living in Ponca City and Enid before settling into a career as a sales rep for Legal Shield.
What drove Mike’s success as a salesperson was his belief in the power of having a positive attitude. He kept that attitude and a smile on his face even while facing his illness. He never gave up the fight.
Mike loved life and in his short time here lived it to its fullest. He was an avid pool player, spending much of his free time as a teenager honing his skills on the family table. He was also an accomplished bowler, having once bowled a 300 game at a tournament on the same weekend his oldest son was born. You would have a hard time finding a bigger fan of the band Pink Floyd. At one time or another, he owned every piece of music they recorded.
Mike is survived by his children, sons Zachary and Joseph of Stillwater, Okla., and daughter Candice and her husband Travis McCauley, of Winfield, Kan.; his grandchildren, Atticus Blue, Kylie, Conner and Dylan; his brother Rick and step-daughter Sarah Ambrose, of East Millinocket, Maine; his brother Joe and family of Greenville, N.C.; his step-sister Teresa Marsha Morrow-Bayless and family of Mound City, Kan.; his step-father Donald Warren, of Ponca City; nephew Brandon of Tonkawa; and nieces Ashley and Sara Virginia, of Muskogee; as well as numerous cousins from both sides of the family and many beloved friends.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Joyce and Joe, along with his grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins from both sides of the family. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Arlington, Va, where a portion of Mike’s ashes will be laid to rest beside his father.
